Heritage Lottery are looking to appoint at least two committee members

The Heritage Lottery are looking to appoint at least two committee members to their Committee for Northern Ireland.

Committee members are passionate about the UK’s heritage, whether it’s conserving an ancient building, supporting plans for a new gallery in a local museum, sprucing up a well-used local park or uncovering the history of a particular community.

Investing in your community

HLF has supported a vast array of projects over the past 22 years, investing over £7.1billion across the UK. In Northern Ireland they have distributed over £209m to more than 1,284 projects including The Ring of Gullion, Bessbrook Model Village, Ulster Museum, Brooke Park, Nomadic, Enniskillen Castle, Mourne Mountains, Belfast Hills, Giants Causeway, Lough Neagh, Arney Bridge, Sentry Hill, Bagenal’s Castle, the Sperrins, Antrim Castle Gardens and the Hill of the O’Neills. Historic townscapes from Derry~Londonderry’s Walled City to Portaferry are being regenerated using over £150million of HLF money.

Smaller communities across Northern Ireland have benefitted through a range of projects that conserve and share heritage at a local level. They have also helped preserve and protect a variety of rich, natural heritage, including Brent Geese and ancient woodlands, the outstanding landscapes of the Glens of Antrim and the unique beauty of Ring of Gullion.

Who they are looking for

Committee members come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds such as heritage, community, charity, voluntary, commercial, financial, public, private, cultural, regeneration, tourism and academia. Members bring their own personal and professional experience and local knowledge to the committee and share this with other members and officers.

For these appointments, candidates are especially sought with experience in:

• Built or natural heritage and
• promoting inclusion within the delivery of projects and services and reaching out to the widest range of people.

They particularly welcome applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and younger individuals who can enrich the skills and experience of our committee and contribute to the future of our shared heritage. They also aim where possible to achieve a wide representation of members across Northern Ireland. Individuals with knowledge of the heritage, culture and networks of North West or South West Northern Ireland are welcomed to apply.

The role offers a personal development opportunity and helps broaden an individual’s knowledge and skills. Members often comment that they have ‘experienced a journey and have learned so much’. Many say the role has helped to further their careers and diversify professional networks.
