Dr Eoin Magennis will deliver a lecture entitled: ‘Elections in County Armagh in 1918: Signs of the Times?’ Dr Magennis is well known and widely respected in history circles locally and throughout Ireland.

He is currently Senior Economist (Economic Research) in the Economic Policy Centre at Ulster University. Previously the Policy Research Manager of Intertrade Ireland in all-island and cross border policy research, Eoin Magennis was initially Lecturer in Modern and Economic History at Queen’s University before fulfilling a role in Research and Outreach at Linenhall Library in Belfast and subsequently becoming Research and Information Officer with the Centre for Cross-Border Studies.

A long term member and officer with Cumann Seanchais Ard Mhacha, Dr Eoin Magennis has been editor of the highly esteemed annual journal Seanchas Ard Mhacha since 2013. The substance of the much anticipated lecture will focus on the Irish election in 1918 with particular reference to the constituencies of Armagh South, Armagh North and Armagh Mid including the political parties and their respective candidates.

Also explored will be perceptions on how the outcome of the elections may have been a contributing factor in influencing the course of Irish history.
