Reconnect with nature, heritage, and history at the foot of Slieve Gullion, where ancient traditions come alive through the art of foraging.

Discover the Ancient Art of Foraging

Join us for Foraging in the Foothills, a unique experience where you’ll learn about edible “weeds” and medicinal wild plants once used by our ancestors. Led by Brian from Mountain Ways Ireland, this immersive workshop takes place on his species-rich hill farm nestled in the stunning Ring of Gullion landscape.

Autumn’s Wild Larder

Autumn brings abundance. On this walk, we’ll explore the cross-over plants that bridge the seasonal gap and uncover what remains of the summer larder.

A Diverse Foraging Landscape

To most, the hedgerow is just a green blur. But after this experience, you’ll see it as a vibrant source of food, medicine, and folklore. Brian, a passionate wild food enthusiast, will guide you through:

  • A short introduction to the ancient art of gathering
  • A slow-paced walk to meet and identify wild plants
  • Insights into ancestral skills and rich local folklore

Learn, Taste, and Explore

During this 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn:

  • The basic do’s and don’ts of foraging
  • Safety guidelines and plant identification techniques
  • How to spot and avoid poisonous species
  • Preservation tips for wild edibles

You’ll also get to taste nature’s wild larder — including some of Brian’s delicious seasonal preserves!
