Help restore Slieve Gullion Cairn

Assist in the restoration of Slieve Gullion Cairn

Slieve Gullion Cairn needs your help! The ancient cairn on the summit of Slieve Gullion is in need of repairs as a result of the accidental damage caused by the thousands of visitors to the site each year.

Working under the supervision of Dr. Martin Keery, an Inspector of Historical Monuments for NIEA, volunteers will be moving the loose stones filling the passage way and redistributing them to the top of the cairn to cover the exposed cement of the roof.

We will meet in the upper section of car park at Slieve Gullion courtyard, near the entrance to the forest drive.  Please wear sturdy footwear (hiking boots are ideal) and weather appropriate clothing and bring a packed lunch with you.

Volunteers should be aware this work involves a roughly 45 minute climb to the mountain summit and the lifting and moving reasonably heavy loads.
