Dinosaurs are coming alive at Slieve Gullion! A T-Rex has been spotted prowling around the Walled Garden. Are you brave enough to track him down?
Come along to our Geotastic Extravaganza, back bigger and better, to learn about dinomite dinosaurs, vicious volcanoes, earth-shattering earthquakes and other wonders of our planet. You can even get your picture taken with Roary (the T-Rex)… if you’re brave enough!
Please note: Tickets are not required for this event, spaces for workshops will be given on a first come first served basis. This event is running alongside the normal operations of the Forest Park so parking will be limited.
Geotastic Extravaganza Activities
Geotastic Geology – 10.00, 11.15, 12.30, 14.00 & 15.15
Come to the Hawthorne Suite and get hands-on with the inner workings of planet Earth.
Find out about:
- How the Ring of Gullion came to be
- Vicious volcano – you can even set off an eruption or two
- Earth-Shattering Earthquakes – can you predict when they’ll pop?
- Fantastic fossils – discover what weird and wonderful creatures roamed the Earth long ago
- the different kinds of volcanoes you can find,
Become a volcanologist and learn about the volcanoes that formed the Ring of Gullion. You can even erupt a vicious volcano.
Please note: Places in the Geotastic Geology session will be offered on a first come, first served basis as space is limited, a maximum of 1 adult per child will be permitted. We recommend you arrive 15 minutes before the start of the session.
Dynamic Dinos – 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.30, 14.30 & 15.30
Take a seat on the grass in the Walled Garden and be amazed at the range of dinosaurs that have come to visit Slieve Gullion; this interactive show is a must for all dinosaur enthusiasts.
The show will last around 20 minutes and will be followed by the opportunity to meet and have your picture taken with Roary the T-Rex on your own camera or smart phone… if you’re brave enough.
Picture posers beware, after about 20 minutes Roary gets tired of posing for pictures and you may very well get chased, as he likes to go for a roam around… looking for dinner!! Though Roary is looked after by his handlers he’s not always well behaved.
Geotastic Crafts – 10.00 – 12.30 & 13.00 – 16.00
Visit the Courtyard to have-a-go at making your own Geotastic Badge or a model of the Earth from Playdoh, learning all about the inside of the Earth as you go. There will also be face-painting and glitter tattoos available.
Please note: The Earth Modelling sessions will run every 30 minutes and will be offered on a first come, first served basis as spaces are limited.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
