CANCELLED – Lunasa Festival: Blaeberry Sunday – Picking & Picnicking

Join us this Blaeberry Sunday for basket decorating, blaeberry picking and a picnic on the summit of Carrigatuke.

Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel this event due to bad weather.

Join us this Blaeberry Sunday for a blaeberry celebration on the summit of Carrigatuke.  We will have a basket crafting workshop for children, where they can make their own basket before using them to collect blaeberries.  You are invited to bring along a picnic and enjoy entertainment from the Armagh Rhymers who will be providing interactive songs and stories for the whole family to enjoy.

Blaeberries are wild blue berries and can be used to make jams and puddings.  They can also be eaten on their own (after proper washing), though they can be a little bitter.  The celebration will be taking place at the Carrigatuke view point.

Please note: Booking is essential for the children’s craft workshop, which will run from 2pm – 3pm.  For everything else you are welcome to just turn up.  The Armagh Rhymers will begin their performance around 3pm.

You are also warmly invited to join Coircal Comhra Ard Macha for an Irish language event in the evening, complete with traditional music from the local pipe band, singing in Irish and a bonfire.  The festivities begin at 8pm at Carrigatuke viewpoint and continue afterwards in the Rock Bar, Keady.

For the energetic amongst you there is also a charity walk, in aid of Sister Consillio’s in Newry, departing from the Rock Bar at 7pm and walking to the viewpoint for 8pm.  The walkers will also be joined by members of Cairde Teo, an Armagh based Irish language organisation.
