Volunteer Opportunity – Vegetation Clearance in Jonesborough Forest – CANCELLED

Clearing unwanted vegetation, such as gorse and vegetation blocking paths, in order to restore Jonesborough Forest to a usable state.

Cancelled – Unfortunately we’ve had to cancel this work day due to staff illness.

You are warmly invited to join the Ring of Gullion Conservation Volunteers with the restoration of Jonesborough Forest, situated behind the Pastoral Centre.  The forest was planted roughly 30 years ago, with beautiful stone lined gravel paths and picnic benches throughout the forest.

Over the intervening years the forest has suffered from a lack of management and as a result had become overgrown to the point where it was impossible to access the forests and use the paths.  That was until 2014 when volunteers began restoring the forest to a usable state.  It is almost ready for re-opening; a small section of the loop path still needs cleared and tidied.

If you’d like to lend a hand and volunteer we’ll be clearing the path, removing gorse which as invaded the site, and felling any small, sickly trees using hand tools.  All tools and safety equipment will be provided as will hot drinks and biscuits.
