Townland Voices – Tales from your townland
Now you can hear the real voices of our townlands, accents, dialects and original stories of the townlands of south Armagh. During the education programme associated with the Know your Townland Project, hand-held audio recorders were lent to schools to enable them to record the local accents of children telling tales of their townland’s history, both personal and official. To date we have over 80 recordings from more than 60 townlands and will continue to add to these totals over the next months. The recordings have to be transcribed, edited and cleaned and so will slowly be added to this gallery archive as this is carried out. If you would like to contribute a townland tale, please contact us and we can lend you a recorder.
We are cataloguing the recordings by civil parish and the recordings will also be available on our interactive map.
