Last call for budding photographers to enter Ring of Gullion Photo Competition.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council and the Ring of Gullion AONB project are calling on all budding photographers to get their photos in before the competition deadline of the 23th September. The theme this year is ‘The World around us in the Ring of Gullion”, which photographers are free to interpret any way they choose. This could be our Built, Cultural or even Natural Heritage.

Only photos taken in the Ring of Gullion will be accepted. The 2 categories are under 14’s and over 14’s. We would encourage teachers and parents to get children under 14 out and about with their cameras before the deadline.

The winning prize is £100 towards a camera len of the winner’s choice with the runners up receiving compact pro-tripods. The top pictures will be chosen by a panel of judges. Photographs entered in the competition will be displayed in Newry in November and Ring of Gullion AONB events over the course of the year. The top 13 will also feature in 2016 Ring of Gullion Calendar.

Councillor Naomi Bailie, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council says “This fantastic amateur photography competition is a great way to showcase the skills of local photographers and the outstanding qualities of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty(AONB).”

“The entrees get better and better every year making it harder to pick the winners. We usually get a range of photos, from landscape photos taken on Slieve Gullion, photos of the local historical sights, as well as photos of local wildlife. We look forward to seeing a range of photos which reflects this year’s theme of the “World around us in the Ring of Gullion”.

It is simple to enter the competition, click here and follow the instructions or call into the office in Crossmaglen Community Centre, O’Fiaich Square, Crossmaglen, BT35 9AA Tel:-(028) 3082 8590.
