The Ring of Gullion needs you!

Over the last two years, more than 20 people from all walks of life have graduated from the prestigious Gullion Ambassador programme and have developed a huge range of skills enabling them to fly the flag of the Ring of Gullion with pride.

The Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership, part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is proud to announce that it will be running its third Ambassador Programme in September and October. The Ambassador programme is open to anyone who is interested in promoting the Ring of Gullion area, but would be particularly useful to those who work in the tourism or service sector.

The Ambassador programme gives participants an insight into the diverse landscapes and rich heritage of the Ring of Gullion area, as well as advice on how best to promote it to visitors. In return for their participation, Ambassadors gain official qualifications including an OCN NI Level 2 Award in Tour Guiding, Emergency First Aid and ‘Walking in your Community’ certificates.

“The qualifications are very beneficial to the Ambassadors as it enables them to lead their own guided walks at community level or indeed just showing their friends and family around the area,” said Des Murphy, Chair of the Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Board.

“Ambassadors are important to the overall promotion of the Ring of Gullion and the surrounding area, as they provide that knowledgeable face-to-face contact that visitors to our area find so valuable. Local people are always best placed to promote their area,” added Roisin Mulgrew, Chair of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

If you have a passion for your local area and are interested in sharing it with others, even if it’s just your friends and family then this course is for you. The course costs £65 and provides more than 60 hours of training. Full details are available here; we recommend you register early as places are limited.
