Visitor Facilities at Slieve Gullion Forest Park Set for improvement

Visitors to Slieve Gullion will soon benefit from enhanced facilities. The Council are providing new visitor amenities including toilets, visitor information and operational facilities which will be provided in a new building.

Slieve Gullion Forest Park has received significant investment, providing an excellent resource for both the local community and in excess of 350,000 visitors annually.

To meet visitor expectations, the Council have listened to feedback from their visitors on the need to enhance basic facilities and to meet the demand of increasing numbers to the site.

Speaking on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said “Slieve Gullion Forest Park is a premier 4 star visitor attraction and provides a fantastic resource for both the local community and visitor to the district. The council are striving to provide 5 star facilities at Slieve Gullion and this project will help achieve the aim. Whilst we are improving facilities we will aim to minimise disruption.”

The contractor CGDM will be on site from late January with the project expected to complete by the 30th June. The contractual work will result in the short term reduction of some parking, however temporary parking will be provided at peak times to meet visitor demands.
