Self-guided geology routes

Start on Slieve Gullion and explore the once molten rock that cooled in layers below the surface of the earth and has since been exposed by time and ice. Then travel to the ribbon lake of Cam Lough where a glacier once gouged a deep channel along a geological fault.

Explore the change in rocks from the 430 million year old beds of sandstone and mudstone at the shore to the young 57 million year old granites in the Mourne Mountains as you walk through a river valley created by ice.
