Jen Lynch (a licensed bird ringer with the BTO) will provide a demonstration of bird ringing, a process where a uniquely numbered lightweight metal ring is placed on a bird’s legs.
She will introduce people to the equipment used and demonstrate how different measurements are taken. Jen will also explain how bird ringing contributes to our understanding of changes in the populations of birds (falling or increasing) and their survival (from year to year).
Depending on the birds caught, there will be an opportunity to go through the key identification features and explain how to recognize the species in the field.
