Come along to this interactive talk, by local historian Seamus Murphy, on the evolution of landscape and communities in the Ring of Gullion.
Seamus’ talk will cover the tales of the various peoples who have lived in the area over the past 6,000 years, starting with the Neolithic farmers who built the cairns, through to the 1700s when the population rapidly increased under a new landlord/tenant system, which left a lasting mark on the political and social development of the area. On to the time of peak population during 1845 and finishing with the modern day building boom of the late 20th century.
Throughout the talk Seamus will look at how the strategic importance of the area, close to the Gap of the North and the main north-south route on the island left its mark in the specific linguistic and cultural development of the Ring of Gullion.
At the end of the evening you will be most welcome to share your stories of the changing times in the Ring of Gullion.
Cost: Free, booking essential as space is limited.
