A workshop has been organised to provide information on upcoming funding opportunities for outdoor recreation development and discuss ideas for stronger partnerships in the area.

Sport NI will be facilitating the workshop and speaking about the funding grant for outdoor recreation which will be opening at the end of October.

So, if you want to develop any recreation activities outdoors; running, walking, cycling, angling, climbing, outdoor swimming, orienteering or something else we haven’t thought of come along and find out how we can work together to benefit the people of south Armagh.

The workshop will cover information/discussion around:-

  • Richard Caplice will be speaking about the development of Lough Muckno, Castleblaney to host top national and international fishing matches and festivals every year.
  • Discussion on new Outdoor Recreation Objectives for Ring of Gullion AONB Management Plan.
  • Any ideas for potential international events happening in the area to apply for the Tourism NI Tourism Event Funding Programme 2017/18 www.tourismni.com/BusinessSupport/FundingOpportunities/EventsFunding.aspx
  • Funding – Update on Everybody Active 2020 Strand 3 – Outdoor Spaces.

This strand is funded by the National Lottery and is targeted at small scale capital projects that deliver new or enhanced sustainable trails or facilities in the natural environment. The aim is to encourage increased participation by local communities in sport and physical recreation through strong community engagement and “ownership” of the project developed.

Sport NI is aiming to have at least one new project in each of the 11 local council areas, and applications for funding will be open to community groups, local authorities and voluntary / charity organisations. The maximum cost of the project should normally be no greater than £250,000 as the focus is on community level outdoor infrastructure and funding will be up to 75% depending on the scale of the project.

Please forward this letter on to anyone/ group who you think may be interested in getting involved. Please let us know by Monday 17th October if you will be attending to enable us to ensure that we have enough tea/ coffee for everyone.
