Volunteer Opportunity – Seed Collection

Join us in collecting and processing native seeds for the Slieve Gullion tree and wildflower nursery. The purpose of the nursery is to help improve biodiversity in the Ring of Gullion area.

We are looking for volunteers to help with seed collecting and processing from trees such as oak, hazel and hawthorn around the Slieve Gullion Courtyard area for our Tree Nursery.   It looks like there is going to be a good crop of hazel and oak seeds this year, so we need plenty of help to gather them up and plant them out.

This opportunity will take place across two sites; the morning will be spent in Slieve Gullion Forest and the afternoon will be spent at the tree nursery in Mullaghbane planting what we have collected.

All tools and safety equipment will be provided; all you need to bring with you is weather appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear (hiking boots are ideal) and a packed lunch.

We’ll be meeting in the Slieve Gullion Courtyard at the gate into the pond area of the courtyard.

Registration essential.

The trees grown in the tree nursery will be freely available to people living in the Ring of Gullion when they are ready for planting in their permanent homes.  The first saplings will be ready Winter 2017.
