Weaving in the Woodlands

Experience traditional willow weaving as our ancestors did in a beautiful natural setting surrounded by the raw materials you will use to create a lovely boat-shaped platter to bring home.

You will be met at Bluebell Lane by artist-weaver Jeanette Keenan, who will take you on a guided woodland walk, visiting a replica Celtic Iron Age Roundhouse and neighbouring Sailleagh Gardens. You will experience the native woodlands at Bluebell Lane and learn how sustainability is vital to sharing heritage skills, like willow weaving and woodland crafts. Continuing the short stroll to the woodland craft area, the hearty Irish welcome is completed with tea & coffee served with local homemade bread. So, onto the main event, when you will weave a boat-shaped serving platter using organic, sustainably sourced willow, with step-by-step guidance from Jeanette. Jeanette talks about the history of weavers in rural Ireland and shares some local stories about the legendary warrior Cúchulainn.
